To remove mold from hard surface use a solution of water and bleach to scrub the affected areas. Exposure to uv rays from direct sunlight may be effective in killing mold that has grown into the surfaces of the wood components of upholstered furniture. Shake to dissolve the baking soda. Use soap and water on painted or stained wood.

Alternatively the wood can be lightly sanded to remove a layer of finished wood and the mold and the wood can be re finished. Alternatively for porous surfaces try a mixture of liquid dish detergent water and bleach. Don t sponge up the excess liquid. Mold and mildew builds up a little at a time over the winter.

Before cleaning mold in a basement remove and clean any contaminated items such as boxes furniture or clothing. Don protective gear an air mask is a must. The bleach will kill the mold and mildew so you should not see any signs of it after this stage. To remove stubborn mold scrub the furniture down with a detergent or bleach solution using a stiff bristled brush.

Using a diluted bleach. Open your windows and wear a face mask to avoid inhaling spores. Vacuum the area to collect loose spores. Scrub away the mold leaving the borax solution in the wood.

To clean antique wood furniture and eliminate mold at the same time fill up a plastic spray bottle with warm water and add one tablespoon of baking soda. Spray the moldy area with baking soda cleaning solution and rub with an old rag or scrub well with a scrub brush. There s less daylight and lousy weather making it easier to put off dealing with until you can t any longer. Use a white rag to wipe down the furniture where the mold and mildew are.

You want as much of the solution in the wood as possible to prevent future growth. The furniture may have to be disposed of. Disinfect your furniture by mixing 1 cup of bleach for every 5 cups of hot water in a bucket. Combine a tablespoon of borax with a cup of water then apply this solution to the mold with a soft bristled brush.

If the mold is extremely resistant try sanding it away with sandpaper. To remove light mold from wood furniture add cheap vodka to a spray bottle and coat the furniture with it before allowing the piece to air dry in direct sunlight.
